CBSE Class 11 Mathematics Syllabus 2024-25: Objectives

  • Acquisition of knowledge and critical understanding, particularly through motivation and visualization, of fundamental concepts, terms, principles, symbols and mastery of underlying processes and skills.
  • Feeling the flow of reasons while proving a result or solving a problem.
  • Apply the knowledge and skills acquired to solve problems and, wherever possible, using more than one method.
  • Develop a positive attitude towards logical thinking, analysis and articulation.
  • Awaken interest in the topic by participating in relevant competitions.
  • To familiarize students with various aspects of mathematics used in daily life.
  • To stimulate students' interest in studying mathematics as a discipline.
  • The aim is to develop awareness of the need for national integration, environmental protection, compliance with small family norms, breaking down social barriers and eliminating gender bias.
  • Develop reverence and respect for great mathematicians for their contributions to the field of mathematics.

CBSE Class 11 Mathematics 2024-25 Course Structure

The subject code for CBSE Class 11 Mathematics is 041. The theory paper is of 80 marks and duration is three hours. The following information shows the unit name, chapter and more. For a more detailed understanding, see the table below:

Unit I: Sets and Functions

1. Sentences

Sets and their representations, empty set, finite and infinite sets, equal sets, subsets, subsets of a set of real numbers, especially intervals (with notation). Universal set. Venn diagrams. Union and intersection of sets. Difference of sets. Complement of a set. Properties of the complement.

2. Relationships and functions Ordered pairs.

Cartesian product of sets. Number of elements in the Cartesian product of two finite sets. Cartesian product of the set of real numbers with itself (up to R x R x R). Definition of a relation, pictorial representations, domain, co-domain and area of ​​a relation. Function as a special type of relationship. Pictorial representation of a function, a domain area, a co-domain area and a functional area. Real-valued functions, domain and range of these functions, constant, identity, polynomial, rational, modular, signum, exponential, logarithm and largest integer functions with their graphs. Sum, difference, product and quotient of functions.

3. Trigonometric functions

Positive and negative angles. Measuring angles in radians and degrees and converting from one measurement to another. Definition of trigonometric functions using the unit circle. Truth of identity sin2x + cos2x = 1, for all x. Signs of trigonometric functions. Area and range of trigonometric functions and their graphs. Expressing sin (x±y) and cos (x±y) in the form of sinx, siny, cosx and cozy and their simple applications.

Unit II: Algebra

1. Complex numbers and quadratic equations

The need to justify complex numbers, especially √−1, by the inability to solve some of the quadratic equations. Algebraic properties of complex numbers. Argand Plain

2. Linear inequalities

Linear inequalities. Algebraic solutions of linear inequalities in one variable and their representation on the number line.

3. Permutations and combinations

Basic principle of counting. Factorial n. (n!) Permutations and combinations, derivation of formulas for nPr and nCr and their relationships, simple applications.

4. Binomial theorem

Historical perspective, statement and proof of the binomial theorem for positive integral indices. Pascal's triangle, simple applications.

5. Sequence and series

sequence and series. Arithmetic Mean (AM) Geometric Progression (GP), general term of a GP, sum of n terms of a GP, infinite GP and its sum, geometric mean (GM), relationship between AM and GM

Unit III: Coordinate Geometry

1. Straight lines

Brief reminder of two-dimensional geometry from previous courses. Slope of a line and angle between two lines. Different forms of equations of a line: parallel to the axis, point-slope form, slope-intercept form, two-point form, axis-intercept form, distance of a point from a line.

2. Conical sections

Conic sections: circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas, a point, a line and a pair of intersecting lines as a degenerate case of a conic section. Standard equations and simple properties of parabola, ellipse and hyperbola. Standard equation of a circle.

3. Introduction to three-dimensional geometry

Coordinate axes and coordinate planes in three dimensions. Coordinates of a point. Distance between two points.

Unit IV: Analysis

1. Limits and Derivatives

Derivative introduced as rate of change both as a distance function and geometrically. Intuitive idea of ​​limit values. Limits of polynomials and rational functions, trigonometric, exponential and logarithmic functions. Definition of derivative refers to the tangent perimeter of the curve, derivative of the sum, difference, product and quotient of functions. Derivations of polynomial and trigonometric functions.

Unit V Statistics and Probability

1. Statistics

Measures of dispersion: range, mean deviation, variance and standard deviation of ungrouped/grouped data.

2. Probability

events; Occurrence of events, “not”, “and” and “or” events, exhaustive events, mutually exclusive events, axiomatic (set-theoretic) probability, connections with other theories of previous classes. Probability of an event, probability of “not”, “and” and “or” events.
