Aurora shooting suspect arrested after falling from moving car, police say

The suspect in a fatal shooting in Aurora Friday night is in custody after falling from a moving vehicle being pursued by officers, police said.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at a home in the 3600 block of South Zeno Way around 10:45 p.m. Friday, according to a summary of events the department posted on social media site X.

One victim, an adult male, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound but later died, the department reports. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will release his identity at a later date.

An adult male was observed fleeing and some of the officers followed his vehicle. As the car made a turn, the suspect “fell from the moving vehicle,” which crashed nearby, police said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash but is now in custody, police said. It does not appear that the suspect attempted to escape officers by jumping out of the car, but was ejected because the vehicle was broken, police spokeswoman Sydney Edwards said.

“He took a turn and that threw him out the door,” Edwards said in an interview Saturday.

The fugitive suspect and the victim knew each other, Edwards said, but she had no further information about the motive for the shooting on Saturday afternoon.
