Xbox gamers have discovered a great trick that allows them to play PC games from Steam on Microsoft's console.

How does it work? Simply put, you can access Nvidia's game streaming service, Geforce Now (GFN), from the Microsoft Edge browser on your Xbox. You can play any GFN-supported game in your Steam library on your console. And the best part: you can do it for free if you don't mind waiting for GFN and watching ads (or paying to skip the queue).

Microsoft has previously hinted that it would like to open up the Xbox to third-party game stores at some point – this hack makes that future (more or less) possible today.

Getting PC games to run on Xbox is such a breeze that you'll be kicked you didn't think of it sooner.

Just follow the steps below and you'll be raiding World of Warcraft in no time:

Go to Games & Apps on your Xbox home screen by clicking the icon at the top of the screen.

Scroll down to Apps and then over to the Microsoft Edge tile.

Open the browser and navigate to the Geforce Now website using the URL bar.

Sign in or sign up now and select a game from your Steam library to start playing (you may also need to sign in to Steam).

The trick apparently works on newer Xbox Series consoles and the older Xbox One

It'll cost you £10 a month, or £20 a month for the Priority or Ultimate tiers (six-month and daily plans are also available). The Ultimate plan is Nvidia's answer to a powerful PC system with RTX 4080 graphics, 4K resolution, and up to 240 FPS – but for most gamers, Priority should be enough.
