USMNT player ratings vs Colombia: Which US players impressed?

It was not a good day for the US men's national team.

Facing a visit from a Colombian team on a long unbeaten streak a week before the 2024 Copa America, the Yanks looked like a team that would struggle in CONCACAF play.

A 5-1 loss despite very few injuries will raise eyebrows across the continent, as Colombia was very good, but the USMNT was anything but.

The goalscorer was Timothy Weah, but no one emerged unscathed as the substitutes struggled to keep up and saw the game quickly turn from 2-1 into a landslide victory.

It began and ended with numerous concessions. The ratings will not be particularly good.

USMNT Player Ratings vs Colombia – By Nicholas Mendola

Matt Turner: 5.5 — A fantastic save, but I would have hoped to have prevented at least one, if not more, goals.

Antonee Robinson: 4.5 — Pretty good going forward. Pretty bad (and unlucky) at the back. One of his worse days in a US jersey.

Tim Ream (62'): 6 — The veteran had a moment of forgetfulness against The CafeteroOne particularly blatant mistake led to a goal for Colombia. Otherwise he was solid, won almost all of his challenges and showed a good variety of passes.

Chris Richards: 5 — He passed the ball well but looked very much like a player getting used to playing as a centre-back in that back four against a very strong opponent.

Joe Scally: 5 — Active and busy, but you would like to see a better view of the header on the second ball that leads to the second goal for Colombia.

Johnny Cardoso (in the 81st minute): 5 — He deserves a 7 for the first half, but significantly less for the second half, in which he made some glaring, obvious mistakes.

Weston McKennie (71'): 5 — He'll have great games, good games and bad games, but it's rare that we see the “quiet” game of Weston McKennie. This was one. It was strange to witness.

Giovanni Reyna (62'): 7.5 — An exciting hour and more for Reyna, who always tried to bring the ball into the Colombian third and helped well in defense.

Christian Pulisic (after halftime): 7 — He has been more immersed in USMNT games than AC Milan games, and Pulisic has taken a lot of hits due to his playing time restrictions.

Timothy Weah: 6.5 — His movement and finishing on goal were good, but you can't say he stood out over the 90 minutes.

Folarin Balogun (from 71'): 7 — Great assist, but he could have scored twice if he had laced his finishing boots properly. A promising performance that could have been improved a little on the final ball.

USMNT submarines

Haji Wright (at halftime): 6 — Only 18 ball contacts, two of them in the Colombian penalty area.

Malik Tillman (in the 62nd minute): 5 — Quiet, and no one in the midfield of the second half should get a good grade.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (in the 62nd minute): 5.5 — People will criticize him for the pass that was intercepted for Colombia's last goal. Sure. But that's also because of the team around him and the potential recipient.

Yunus Musah (71st minute): — n/a

Ricardo Pepi (in the 71st minute): — n/a

Luca de la Torre (81st minute): – n. A.
