Ariana Grande demands a corresponding clause in the contracts of all child stars after “devastating” allegations

Ariana Grande also said that her mother was only allowed on set “occasionally” when she was a child star

Ariana Grande has called for a change in contracts with child stars on television following “devastating” allegations of abuse.

Although Ariana Grande is known for her extremely successful pop career, she first rose to fame as a child star on television.

As a teenager, she played Cat Valentine in Nickelodeon's hit show Victorious, and later she repeated her role in a spin-off version called Sam and Cat.

It's a career that young children look up to and dream of, but the release of a documentary series has revealed what allegedly happened behind the scenes.

The five-part series, Peace on the set: The dark side of children’s television, detailed several cases of emotional and physical abuse on the set of children's television shows in the early 2000s.

Speak with You Ariana, who works alongside actor Penn Badgley and host of the podcast Podcrushed, expressed her regret over the “devastating” allegations that have come to light, but clarified that her experience at Nickelodeon has been nothing but “beautiful.”

Nevertheless, she called for a reform of child stars' contracts to introduce a “mandatory” clause giving them access to therapy if necessary.

She explained: 'Therapy should include a mandatory element where a professional helps you understand what this experience of changing your life so drastically, at a young age, at any age, is doing to you.

“Many people don’t have the support they need to perform at this level at such a young age.”

Ariana noted that she is still “processing” her own experiences on the shows and said they are constantly evolving.

In addition to therapy, she advocated for greater parental presence on set, as she documented that parents were only allowed on set “occasionally” during filming.

Former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider came under heavy scrutiny following the release of the documentary series.

He has now filed a defamation suit against Peace on set, after claiming that the show had “irreparably damaged” his reputation.

One of the biggest revelations in the entire docuseries was when Drake Bell talked about his experiences filming the shows.

He described the alleged sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of now convicted sex offender Brian Peck.

As a dialogue coach, Peck maintained close contact with the child stars at Nickelodeon and worked in particular with Amanda Bynes, the star of children's television at the time.

Amanda Bynes had her own show on Nickelodeon but has not commented on it Peace on set.
