James Corden admits Gavin & Stacey's Christmas special could be in crisis

James Corden warned viewers that it would be “close”

James Corden said he “thinks” the Gavin and Stacey The Christmas special will be ready in time.

Nothing gets the British in the Christmas spirit in June, an update on the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.

James Corden and Ruth Jones, co-creators of the BBC show, announced a return of the series in May – although they had previously denied it.

They shared a photo of themselves holding up a script that read: “Gavin and Stacey: The final.”

Yep, looks like this new episode could Strictly speaking be the last episode of the popular sitcom.

Three seasons of this series aired from 2007 to 2010 and followed the relationship of Gavin and Stacey, played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, as they lived between Essex and Wales.

Gavin and Stacey last aired in 2019 as a one-off Christmas special that ended with a major cliffhanger and left fans desperately searching for an answer for five years.

At the end of the cult episode, Nessa (Jones) gets down on one knee and proposes to Smithy (Corden).

Following the announcement of the 2024 Christmas special, the pressure seems to be on to get the episode finished and edited in time for its release, with Corden admitting that he “thinks” it will be ready in time.

In a recent interview with Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, he said: “We will shoot it [Gavin And Stacey] Around September/October it will be difficult to deliver it.

“But it's like this… the structure of the show is like putting together a Jenga puzzle, the availability of the cast and all those things.

“I think it will be okay, yes.”

After leaving his talk show in the USA, The Late Late Show with James Corden, He is set to play the lead role in a London stage production of the political drama. The Constitutional Author, from the end of June at the Old Vic Theater.

Corden added that the co-writers did not want to give the script to anyone unless it was absolutely necessary.

He explained: “We don't really want to give it to anyone unless we feel like it… so we have to make some cuts and a few little adjustments, but I'm really excited to share it with people.”

Rumor has it that the Christmas special won't be the only Christmas present for fans in December, as it will reportedly be coupled with a documentary looking back at the making of the show.

A source had previously told The Sun: “The BBC sees this as a momentous occasion and wanted to give Gavin and Stacey a fittingly celebratory farewell.”
