Father's Day is just around the corner. Although Father's Day isn't as big an event as Mother's Day, this is a very special holiday that celebrates dads, stepdads and grandfathers, young and old. From stay-at-home dads to working men outside the home, it's time to honor these important people in your life.

But how much do you really know about the holiday that takes place on the third Sunday in June? Check out these eight fun trivia facts about Father's Day. It is sure to make you smile and laugh and bring joy to your special day.

First Father's Day

Father’s Day actually has a biological mother, reported NPRThe idea for a day to honour fathers comes from Sonora Dodd was raised by her father after her mother died in childbirth. In 1910, she began to think about all her father had done for her as she grew up, and she pushed for a day to honor him and other fathers. The first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane, Washington, but it was not an official holiday in the United States until 1972.

Father’s Day has an official flower

Like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day also has an official flower, according to the Blog Time for my children. It was an early tradition for fathers to carry a red rose to church on their special day. Although this tradition is not followed as often anymore, giving your father a red rose is a great way to celebrate the day.

75 million fathers

According to NPR, there are 75 million fathers in the United States. This includes biological, adopted and stepfathers. That is actually six out of ten men. While 61 percent become fathers in their twenties, another 20 percent become fathers between the ages of 30 and 34. Age is relative when it comes to Upbringing what you really need is love!

A royal day

In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated on the King’s birthday on December 5, according to the Blog Time for my children. It is a tradition to do good deeds on this day (and not just for the father). There are also fireworks to celebrate fathers.

In the USA, there have been two presidential couples consisting of father and son: John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams and George HW Bush and his son George W. Bush. These sons went into the family business!

According to the greeting card manufacturer, Father's Day is the fourth biggest holiday in the United States for giving cards, behind Mother's Day, Valentine's Day and Christmas. Markwith over 72 million cards exchanged for the holiday each year. About half of these are purchased for fathers, with cards for daughters making up the largest category, but other cards are for husbands, grandfathers, sons and uncles.

While flowers are the most popular gift for mothers on Mother’s Day, there is a different option on Father’s Day.
