Betty Preston Miller Valentine 1927-2023 | News, Sports, Jobs



GROVE CITY – Betty Preston Miller Valentine, 96, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Her husband, Bob, passed away on November 21, 2023.

Betty was born on June 3, 1927, to Emmet Preston and Lucille Kaelin Preston of Lancaster.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn L. Miller of Grove City, and her son, Dr. Michael (Colleen) Miller of Little Rock, Arkansas; her stepchildren, Mark (Candy) Valentine of Grove City and Janet (John) Pander of Douglasville, Georgia; two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Morrell, had already died before her. “Skip” Miller; and step-great-grandson Cameron Shaw.

Betty was an active alumnus of Columbus North High School, class of 1945, Ohio State University, class of 1949, and Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After earning a degree in education, she taught elementary school for 30 years in Columbus and Chevy Chase, Maryland, and finished her career as a fifth grade teacher at Lincoln and Garfield schools in Warren. She was recognized by the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation as a Jennings Scholar for excellence in teaching for the 1966-67 school year.

After reconnecting at their 40th high school reunion in 1985, Betty and Bob Valentine were married in 1988. They enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and numerous countries around the world, attending Ohio State football games, and spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren, with a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
