Second-year player with the Green Bay Packers has a good chance of becoming a starting cornerback

There will be plenty of battles to watch for the Green Bay Packers during training camp in July. Preseason games will be held in August before the start of the 2024 season. Green Bay has a few positions that are still undecided. One of the biggest undecided positions is that of backup quarterback to Jordan Love.

Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt will compete for the job. Pratt could very well win the job ahead of Clifford based on his performance so far in the offseason.

Another position battle that may interest the Green Bay Packers is the starting left tackle spot between Rasheed Walker and rookie Jordan Morgan. Walker is expected to be the starting left tackle this season, not the rookie first-round pick.

Freddie Boston of Lombardiavenue.com believes Carrington Valentine will win the starting cornerback job ahead of Eric Stokes for the Green Bay Packers

Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com made predictions for the upcoming 2024 season with the 53-man roster after the end of OTAs and mandatory minicamps. Unsurprisingly, he has Jaire Alexander as the best cornerback on the Green Bay Packers roster.

What he does predict, however, is that second-year player Carrington Valentine will be the cornerback ahead of Eric Stokes. Valentine is his second cornerback and Keisean Nixon is his third. Boston believes Stokes will make the 53-man roster, but Eric Stokes will be the fourth cornerback on the roster.

Freddie Boston of lombardiavenue.com said:

“The Packers are bringing back a similar cornerback room to last year. They hope Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes stay healthy. Rookie Kalen King has shown potential in the slot and will have a chance to make the 53 if he can continue to impress in training camp.”

Stokes was selected in the first round (29th pick overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He hasn't stayed healthy. Eric Stokes had a good start in OTAs, but Carrington Valentine has improved his play. This could be one of the best battles to watch during training camp, and they are thin at the position.

Green Bay Packers
Bills receiver Stefon Diggs and Packers receiver Eric Stokes battle for position on this long pass that fell incomplete.

Valentine was selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. Last season with the Green Bay Packers, he recorded 44 tackles, one forced fumble and nine pass deflections.

Carrington Valentine had no interceptions or sacks, but played very well and his number was called. Valentine could easily steal Eric Stokes' starting cornerback spot in training camp.
