How Manchester United sees Amad Diallo now means bad news for the £86 million player

Amad Diallo developed into a regular starter for Erik ten Hag in the final weeks of the Premier League season for Manchester United.

Last season was bizarre for Manchester United for many reasons. But for Amad Diallo, the most bizarre thing may have been how quickly he went from nobody to hero.

The Ivorian was injured in the first few months of the season and returned in January, but was barely featured until he got a chance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

In that game, Amad came off the bench to score the winning goal in a 4-3 quarter-final win, a goal that seems all the more important after United went on to lift the trophy.

After that, he disappeared from the scene again, but started a few games towards the end of the Premier League season and scored goals and assists against Newcastle.

Now it has become known what the club thinks of him this summer, and that means bad news for one player in the squad.

What Manchester United thinks about Amad Diallo

Until he made two consecutive starts at the end of the Premier League season, Amad Diallo's future looked uncertain, to say the least.

He will not have been happy with how little he played last season compared to Antony, especially as his influence was much greater.

But now, according to the Manchester Evening News, Amad will take on a new role at the club next season after impressing in his late-season performances.

The report explains that Amad is now seen as an integral part of the team going forward, which seems only right given his impressive performance in the game.

United are said to have put Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund in the same category as players who will be future stars at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag also including Amad in that quartet in a recent interview.

However, this leaves an £86m man out in the cold, with no place in the starting eleven and rapidly losing the support of Ten Hag.

Where is Antony?

With Amad becoming a genuine first-team star, Antony will only move further down the United squad hierarchy, and this is also the case with Ten Hag losing patience with him and has reportedly even taken a sharp swipe at Antony.

Amad is so “talented” and is expected to play more next season. That might leave Antony with limited options, but after a terrible season, he can't really argue that.

Amad played just 471 minutes in all competitions that season, scoring two goals and providing one assist – an average of one goal being involved in every 157 minutes on the field. This number would certainly have been even higher had he not been restricted to cameos.

For comparison: Antony was on the pitch for 1,910 minutes, scored three goals and provided two assists during that time – that is, he contributed a goal every 382 minutes.

Antony's career could be at a strange turning point: a future at United looks unlikely, but it is also difficult to assume that many clubs are in the running to sign him.
